The original design and tangible appearance on the Nebl planter has made it subject to a massive interest and fascination from all over the world. Find out more about the planter and read how designer Michael Rem came up with the idea for Nebl here.
A blanket of fog covers the streets, dewdrops decorate tips of grass and a massive silence prevails. In this moment the entire world seems small, calm and present. Chaos of hustle and bustle sweeps away and a feeling of being in the moment takes over. The nature seems luxuriant and full of life, and at the same time it feels like everything has just stopped.
These emotions are captured in Nebl: an intuitive and innovative planter that salutes unity and simplicity. The pure and minimalistic design represents the sense of peacefulness and calmness that strikes, when everything is wrapped in rich, grey quietness. As a fragment of a moment Nebl captures the feeling of ease and reflects it out to the entire room.
Nebel is the German word for ‘fog’ and this exact meteorological phenomenon is the main source of inspiration for Berlin based designer Michael Rem. Michael Rem about the inspiration for Nebl:
“Walking around on a foggy day, feeling this fresh air in your lungs. Water condenses on your skin. Only blurry silhouettes of things are around you, defining the boarders of your current world. Nothing is behind it. Only imagination. Fog hides everything unnecessary but reveals the beauty of simple things.”
Simplicity, emotionality and innovation are mantras in Michael Rem’s design philosophy, which is transformed in to specific ideas based on inspiration and impressions from everyday life. Nebl is no excuse to this and is in many ways a sublime illustration of Michael Rem’s entire approach to product design.
Nebl consists of two parts: A ceramic base in which the plant is placed, and a mouth-blown frosted glass that is placed on the base. The matte finish of the glass adds an exclusiveness and tactility to Nebl, that makes it hard not to get intrigued. The glass has two openings with different sizes, which makes it possible to place the glass either high or low on the base. This subtle detail allows you to change the look of Nebl according to sense of taste or mood. Furthermore, this option accommodates the functional aspect that some plants grow upwards and some downwards – adjust the placing of the glass to the plant and create the ideal surroundings for its growth.
