KYDO Toolbox

The Kydo tray draws inspiration from the ancient Japanese art of archery, kyudo. In particular, it reflects the poised gesture of the archer preparing to release the arrow - an idea that gave rise to its distinctive handle, reminiscent of a drawn bow. Elegance, grace, and strength are at its core, complemented by a sense of elasticity and durability that guided every step of the design process.

Kydo is a versatile object - a practical toolbox for transporting small items and everyday essentials. It fits seamlessly into various settings: at home in the kitchen or dining room, in the garden, or in the office, where it organizes stationery with both style and efficiency.

The ergonomic handle allows for safe and effortless carrying of a wide range of objects, from bottles and glasses to cutlery, tea and biscuits, or even magazines and books.

The design process began with a striking image from an ancient Japanese print depicting an archer drawing a bow. From this initial inspiration, we explored sketches that eventually led to the concept of a tray with a cylindrical handle designed for easy transport.

The idea emerged naturally and intuitively. Kydo embodies the essence of Gejst’s design philosophy: simplicity, timeless elegance, craftsmanship, and high-quality materials.

From the very beginning, the project suggested its own materiality and color palette. The form of Kydo is shaped through the use of solid and curved wood, while contrasting colors highlight its construction and emphasize its architectural character.
